Inferno Metal Festival: Kampfar & Glittertind

Every Easter, Norway and Oslo has its Inferno Metal Festival. This is a four-day festival with black metal music. Black metal can trace much of its origin in Norway, so it is therefor natural that one of the biggest festivals of the genre is held here.

I've attended the festival a few times over the years, watching bands like Satyricon, Immortal, Obliteration, Taake, Den Saakaldte, The Kovenant, Mayhem, Isahn, Finntroll, Vreid, Keep of Kalessin, Iskald and Susperia, to name a few.

This year I decided to only attend the club day, since Timmy just entered the family a few days ago. Kampfar and Glittertind was on my schedule that day.

I haven't listened actively to Kampfar for more than a few months, but they play melodic black metal. Dolk came out on stage and quickly made us know that he was the boss! It was intense, energetic and Dolk's growling vokals were awesome! Although I did not have a deep relationship to all of the songs they played, it was no problem enjoying being there! Awesome concert!

I have actually been to a Glittertind concert before. I think it was their second concert ever, and their first time in Oslo. They played in the basement of a student home at Blindern. Awkward location, awesome concert!

Since Glittertind is mostly a folk rock band, it might seem strange that they play on a black metal festival. I must admit that I was a bit unsure of how people would welcome them, but fortunately I was wrong about my skepticism. People loved them! Glittertind have a couple of songs with a little bit of growling, but mostly it's just the vocalist Torbjørn Sandvik that sings in a nice high pitch voice accompanied by guitars, accordion and flutes(!).

Although they had some small technical hiccups in the beginning, they had tremendous energy, and Torbjørn did great with the vocals. They mixed between ballads and more energetic songs. I especially liked that they played 'Svart Natt', which is an old favorite of mine. All in all, it was really great!

The film below is from another concert I attended. It is Glittertind's version of the classic Norwegian song 'Jeg snører min sekk'.

Do you enjoy going to concerts?

No more excuses! Push push push!
